The Master of the Nets Garden at Night

The one hour show took advantage of the halls and pavillions of the famed Master of the Nets Garden to highlight some of the cultural tradition of Suzhou in music, drama and dance. A short scene excerpt from a Suzhou comic play. The guide who introduced the different presentations at the each venue in Chinese and fluent enough English. A seductive but tasteful fan dance in colourful costume. The pipa the Chinese lute is synonymous with Chinese music. The Chinese flute adds an aural touch to the nocturnal air of the Gardens. Two singers representing a maid and her mistress in an excerpt from a famous Suzhou opera. The zheng a zither-like ancient Chinese instrument dating from 225 BC was played with great virtuosity by local player, Lucia Xu. Lucia Xu, taking a a well-deserved bow is confirmation of the famed beauty of Suzhou women.
