A selection of images taken during my recent one-month China trip from March 18 to April 18, 2006.
The map below shows the itinerary starting from Hong Kong. The dark red lines show the route taken. All travel was done independently except for the tour of Guilin (with Li River and Yangshuo). The train journeys were from Shanghai to Suzhou to Nanjing and thence the long overnighter to Xi'an. The outline itinerary is:

#More bandwidth-friendly preview thumbnails available from Tongli pages onwards. Still a work in progress - so excuse the improvisory nature of the site and do come back for new episodes. These are my first digital photos taken with a borrowed Pentax 750Z viewfinder camera (although I have taken colour slides in past travels). It is apparent that I was still learning how to use the camera. I hope despite the technical shortcomings that the special sense of place that China represents has emerged.
